Being Tourists

Bridge over St. John's River in downtown Jacksonville.

Cory, Jan and Ken down St. George's Street in St. Augustine. (Great little spot to visit by the way!)

On Saturday Safewalls had a company bbq. Here's Cory exhibiting his skill at carrying a tray full of coffee and mugs.

Safewalls

We spent Memorial Day weekend in Orange Park (near Jacksonville) with our friends Ken and Jan Krantz. Safewalls is Ken's construction company. He builds homes out of concrete. Here's a few of the houses we looked at. Above is house going up near St. Augustine. They still have to pour the second floor. Below is Jacksonville Jaguars Rashid Mathis' (did I spell that right?) place, and the Spanish looking house is another Safewalls house in the same area.

Cory and Kenny settling a disagreement. Kenny is Ken Krantz' son.

Kittens Again

I'm very aware that this blog is turning out to be all about kittens, but until they're given away you'll just have to bear with us. They're just waaaay too cute not to photograph.

No Ordinary Trash Can

Who knew burgers tasted good right out of the garbage can? Here you have Cory's successful attempt at a homemade grill.

12 Days Old

(L - R) Oscar, Parker, Calypso and Coconut

Mother's Day

I guess I can unofficially celebrate Mother's Day... Cory thought we should spend the very warm Sunday afternoon at the beach. So, we had a late lunch of shrimp poboys at Crabs at Pensacola Beach. Then lazily walked the boardwalk and docks and ate ice cream before he headed to church.

Cordelia's Litter

May 4th our cat Cordelia had a litter of five kittens. The one missing from the pictures is a little black one that didn't make it. If it had, we would've had a kitten of every color. The oatmeal one is Coconut, the white one is Calypso, the grey one is Oscar and the orange one was Parker. Of course, we're already too attached to them but we know we need to give them up. Anyone need a kitty?

Alligator Alley

Another highlight of Jules & Kevin's redneck vacation was our experience at Alligator Alley. (This is for you Charlene!) When our summer visitors arrive, this is something we'll have to check out.

Jules & Kevin

Jules and Kevin flew out from cold and rainy Edmonton to spend 5 sunny Florida days with us. Of course, there were many hours spent at the beach. They beach-hopped from Navarre to Destin to Pensacola Beach to Orange Beach, Alabama. Other than the beach they sipped their first bushwackers...at a not-so-touristy attraction called The Sandshaker on Pensacola Beach. I think it must be a local hangout because when we walked in all the drunks looked at us like we each had three heads and told us up front that this particular bar was a little rough. Luckily they had a deck and we sipped our bushwackers outside away from burly drunk men and cigarette smoke...though one followed us out and danced alone to Frank Sinatra.

Rebuild Picnic

Rebuild Northwest Florida held a company bbq picnic a couple of weeks ago, so here's a couple of shots from that. This is Ginger and me. She and I are both addicted to coffee (though right now that stuff tastes icky). Lyric is the little character below. Her mom Shannon used to work at Rebuild.

Cory would like to send a big thank you to his dad for this insightful gift. Cory's favorite past time is NASCAR.

The Doerksen Jelly Bean

10 weeks...
Due November 23rd
Little earlier than I thought!

Dallas Continued

Don't ask me how or why... Marissa and I spent our final evening in Dallas playing video games...for 5 hours. Originally the plan was to race go-carts but it was pouring rain so this was the alternative. And just to brag for a bit, Marissa and I dominated. Yeah, we're fast. We also played Dance Dance Revolution and I found out how uncoordinated I really am.

Dallas with Marissa

April 21 - 25 I spent some fun times with Marissa in Dallas. She flew down for a nurses convention and I couldn't resist flying out to meet up with her. (Direct flight from Pensacola for $209...not so bad!) Our first full day we shopped. Our mode of transportation was hotel shuttle to train to bus to mall to bus to train to hotel shuttle. So we got around pretty well for pretty cheap. (But let's not forget my $45 cab fare from the airport to the hotel! Nasty. But Marissa is totally worth the $45...and much much more.) The photo above is one of the escalators we took at one of the train depots.

This was the view from our 7th floor hotel room. (Hey Gerald & Jacqueline - This building is where Vic used to work.) Below are Vic & Elaine Neufeld who are both Manitoba-born. Elaine is Cory's brother-in-law's sister. They took us out for a mini tour of super uber upscale homes in the Dallas area and also for a Mexican/Cuban dinner. It's always a plus to know a few people in different places to get a better idea of where you are. It was an excellent evening...except for one minor upheaval (literally) on my part.

From L-R we have #22, Marissa, Myra, Peter and Alvin underneath a massive chandelier in the Hilton. Missing are Nell and his wife. These are Marissa's coworkers from the dialysis world who also flew down from Winnipeg whom we spent some time with...lots of fun. (I'm sorry #22 for forgetting your name!)
